Each value shows its source, year, place, and any change made to it.
How to read the atlas
Time period
World Bank “Latest available” uses the last year with data for each place. Those years may differ. Pick one year to compare places in that same year.
Sample estimates
ACS 1-year and 5-year values are survey estimates. The 5-year set blends five years; it is not a count for one year. This app does not show margins of error.
Missing data
Maps and tables leave out missing data. They skip withheld data too. They skip values that are not valid. They also skip Census codes for withheld data. Ranks, medians, and downloads use these rules too.
Derived ratios
For U.S. rates, divide a count by the right ACS group size. Rounding may change a rate a bit. How a group is defined can change it too.
Nominal dollars
Each ACS release adjusts dollars for price change. We do not set values from other releases to one common year. Check the World GDP labels. They show if dollars are current or adjusted.
Imported data
CSV rows stay in this browser. The person who imports them must check their facts, places, and terms. Imports do not change the source data.
